Working as an artist and an educator for the last 44 years, I continually hope that my work reflects the optimism and zeal that life holds for me. Ideally, I like my work to combine three things: a child like, positive and uninhibited quality; Eastern awareness of tradition and ceremony as necessary to the act of creating; and the sense of work shifting away from direct representation of the subject (and from realism), toward process (activity), doing, seeing and inventing. My current work is primarily in the area of printmaking and assemblage.

For the past 18 years I have been privileged to work summers in the printmaking center of the College of Santa Fe, New Mexico. In the fall semester of 1997 I was their Artist in Residence and became interested in the monotype and monoprint process. This method of working allowed for a more painterly approach to and gave me the ability to combine my interest in collage with the printing process. The recent pieces that are reproduced on this web site  reflect a continued interest in this type of printing. In the monotype, which is a transferred painting or a painterly print, the surface is enhanced by additional papers both for content and for texture, that are adhered as they are printed (chine collé). This process underscores an ongoing interest in collage. The main focus in these new works is form, expressive use of color and composition with directed energy and playfulness. I am exploring the feelings that move me—not the objects or things.

As an artist I am an enthusiastic supporter of the need to create and the sense of self that is established with the freedom of visual exploration without fear: “Try it and see what results can happen.” Artists act on their dreams  and remove limitations.
